About the Author
Susan Briscoe is a textile designer and acclaimed author. After graduating in art and design, she designed hand knits, but it was in Japan, where she studied traditional textiles and kimono design and tailoring, that her interest in patchwork was sparked. She teaches creative textile workshops and demonstrates her work at quilt and textile shows in the UK and internationally. She is the author of several books on quilting, including 130 Mini Quilt Blocks, Japanese Quilt Inspirations, and 200 Quilting Tips, Techniques & Trade Secrets.

If you like small blocks & quilts, I think you're going to like this book.

I have dozens of block books, many of which include the cutting/piecing instructions for 4" and 5" blocks but this little book is one of my favorites.
As other reviewers have noted, most quilters will recognize many of the 130 blocks included in the book. But there are quite a few blocks that I either hadn't seen, or had only seen in old, encyclopedic style block books. So even if you've seen ALL the blocks in this book, the "cute presentation" of the blocks and projects in this book definitely make it very appealing. (Seriously, seeing Basic Grey's Sultry collection used for the blocks in the Log Cabin chapter makes me wish I had some of that stashed away.)
While the title includes the "... using ready-made fabric bundles", the cutting sizes do not require pre-cuts, nor are they written specifically for pre-cuts. Simply put, I think the "ready-made" is a marketing tool to get those of us who love pre-cuts to take a look at the book. I think the point the authors are trying to make is that because the blocks are small, a couple of charm packs, or something like that, will be more than enough fabric to make a whole slew of these little blocks.
The book includes short, basic sections on fabric selection ~ find the charm packs, 10" square pack or fat-eighth bundle you like ~ cutting, piecing and finishing. While the information is not comprehensive, this is not the sort of book that needs to include that. It covers the information that the author believes is most relevant and that's plenty. The rest of the book is divided into ten chapters, each with at least 10 blocks.
The blocks are divided into chapters by theme ~ Almost Amish, Retro Revival, Thrifty Thirties, Stars & Pinwheels, English Traditions, Crazy Colors, Taupe Tranquility, Japanese Odyssey, Country Classics, and Log Cabin. All the blocks in each chapter are made using fabrics from the same collection or style/color palette, and all the blocks in each chapter finish at the same size. Each chapter includes ideas for a wonderful little quilt, a cute project, and/or "mix and match" options for the blocks.
The blocks in seven of the ten chapters finish at 5" x 5". In the remaining three chapters, all of the blocks in each chapter finishes at the same size. Those chapters/blocks finish at 3" x 3", 4" x 4" and 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
When I picked this book up and started flipping through it, what I loved most is that this would be a terrific book for anybody wanting to experiment with something different. Using this little book, it would be easy to make an Amish Sampler using a Jelly Roll of solid fabrics, then make a wonky quilt using a 10" stack of batiks. If you've got a basket overflowing with scraps, there are plenty of blocks and ideas in this quilt to make a wall-hanging, a pillow, or even a lap-sized quilt.

Fantastic book

Beautifully illustrated. This book has all of the mini blocks shown together across two pages so you can easily find the one you want. The instructions for each individual block are clear and concise and printed below a large picture of the block. This is my first attempt at making miniature blocks and this book is just what I need to do it. Love it!

A Neat Little Book

This is a neat little book. The hundred and thirty blocks promised by the title are divided into ten chapters. Many of the blocks are familiar, but there are quite a few that I've never seen before. If I've got one complaint about this book, it's that the blocks aren't all the same finished size, so if you plan on using it to make a sampler quilt, you'll have to pick all of your blocks from the same chapter.
The few necessary templates are all included in the back of the book and are all full size. There's an introductory chapter that briefly covers fabric selection and cutting, different techniques used to assemble the blocks, and quilting. Scattered through the book are suggested uses for the blocks. I found several little quilts that I'd like to make. Those tempting little projects are what sets this book apart from other block collections.
