About the Author
TETSUYA MIYAMOTO, the creator of KenKen, is a math teacher who runs a unique mathematics class for grade school children in Japan where he practices "The Art of Teaching Without Teaching." His teaching method and use of KenKen in his classroom has proven extremely successful. His students regularly go on to be accepted at the most prestigious schools in Tokyo.
WILL SHORTZ has been the crossword puzzle editor of The New York Times since 1993. He is also the puzzlemaster on NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday and is founder and director of the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. He has edited countless books of crossword puzzles, Sudoku, KenKen, and all manner of brain-busters.

A great way to kill time and sharpen your mind

This is fun! I highly recommend it to sudoku lovers and to anyone who enjoys logic puzzles. Volume 1 level is very easy. Really just for children.
Basic math challenges (add, subtract) solved with sudoku-like logic on a sudoku-like grid with "cages." No repeat numbers in rows or columns, you know the drill.
I'm sudoku-ed out at this point, but the KenKen puzzle is different enough that I can already feel the addictive possibilities of it. Also, my perception and mental clarity feel sharper after solving one or two of these. I like that part lots.

"KenKen", edited by Will Shortz, is another great puzzle book for those who like Soduko and similar mental games. The instructions are clear, the books come in different levels of difficulty, and each puzzle is challenging in its own way. Great for fifth graders on up!
