JEAN SHERIDAN is Associate Professor and Reference Bibliographer in the Social Sciences at the University of Rhode Island Library. Her research has focused on the provision of library services to adult students, collaborative learning, and the relationship between the academic library and Writing-Across-the-Curriculum programs.

many like ourselves who are now starting the educational process with ...

While this book is dated, it contains information and possible initiatives that could still be applied in today's higher education curriculum across the United States. Education today is changing; we have parents, many like ourselves who are now starting the educational process with their siblings as young as pre-k so that the end result is Harvard, Sidwell, Spence, some of whom most regular people have not heard of in terms of where to send their children for a good education; what I found interesting about this text was the assumption that American students (those whose parents have the means and wealth to support a good educational environment) can succeed; where we-educators come in is developing a program or initiative that can be implemented to ensure success across those scenarios (the individual States) where many of our educational processes are failing. Infusing money into what may seem to be successful programs does noting for those communities across the country where many of sour students coming to college fail because writing for them in the lower grades was not as essential. This book, "WAC and the Academic Library" illustrates a collaboration not only within a higher educational environment but also a HS and grade school level to help students become successful college graduates who will hopefully understand that education involves life-long learning not regulated to a six or seven period that ends with a diploma that for many students, is nothing more than a piece of paper.
